Tulane Libraries provide access to nearly 198,000 periodical titles online and nearly 58,000 print periodical titles, current or ceased. Periodicals include journals, magazines, newspapers, and other subscription resources.
A journal is a periodical devoted to disseminating original research and commentary on current developments in a specific discipline or field of study. Journals are usually published in quarterly, bimonthly, or monthly issues. Popular interest magazines, trade journals, and newspapers that are also published periodically. Use the Journals by Subject to look for these titles online in digital format. Is there a journal you want that we don’t have? Articles from journals available at other libraries can be obtained through interlibrary loan.
While common today, the online journal is a comparatively new development in the long history of publishing. Many older volumes of journals, magazines, and newspapers are only available in print formats. Print format journals can be browsed on the shelves, or retrieved by request if held at the Tulane Libraries Offsite Storage Facility. Search for periodical holdings in physical or online formats using the Library Search interface. Of particular note are The Latin American Library's extensive holdings of print journals published in Latin America and the Caribbean. Rare journals can be found in Tulane University Special Collections and The Latin American Library Special Collections. Howard-Tilton Memorial Library offers students and faculty a Scan & Deliver Service that will scan journal articles or a single book chapter from the library’s general circulating print collections and deliver them electronically to the user's interlibrary loan account within two business days.
